项目位于新疆天池景区内游客到达天池湖边的必经之处，包含展览、旅游纪念品售卖、快餐、咖啡厅等设施。为了不影响自然景观并揭示场所特质，设计把建筑的行为视为对场地的考古，向地下寻求创造与大地一体的空间界面的可能性，试图通过对地形的挖掘在建筑内部揭示天池的地质特征——例如地下的岩石有些将被保留成为室内或庭院景观。

建筑的主要空间通过开放的大台阶（同时也是室外观演场所）向下进入一个中心庭院后再进入，地面高低起伏以容纳不同的展品及与身体的关系，材料的一致性加强建筑内部空间如同从场地中挖出的效果。光线可以透过上部屋顶水池水底的天窗投入，投射水的波纹于展品上。从广场上看，建筑的屋顶如同一个漂浮的水池，也成为广场的一道景观。二层咖啡厅的体量漂浮于水池上，可以完全打开的推拉门为内部营造出通过无边界水面远看天池和雪山的纯净景观。场地中原有的云杉均得以保留并透过水池中的洞口伸出。

建筑中所具有的石、水、树等元素均是对天池自然景观的回应。

The project is located at the TianChi Scenic Area, Xinjiang Province, including exhibition, souvenir sales, catering, cafe and other facilities. In order not to affect the natural landscape and to reveal site character, the design regards architecture as archaeological explorations of the site, exploring downward to create an interface integral with the earth. Through excavation, the design is trying to reveal the geological characteristics of TianChi--for example, some underground rocks will be retained to form interior or courtyard views.

In the main space of the building, a big stage (also an exterior performance space) leads to a central courtyard down into the ground. The ups and downs of the ground could accommodate exhibit space and form a relationship with human body. The consistency of materials strengthens the atmosphere of the interior as if excavated from the site. Light can pass through via the roof pool, casting rippling shade patterns onto the exhibited objects. Viewing from the square, the roof of the building appears to be a floating pool, also forming a view on the plaza. The café on the second floor floats in the pool. When the sliding doors are fully open, visitors could enjoy a continuous view to distanced TianChi and snow-capped mountains. Spruce trees onsite are preserved, extending out through holes in the pool.

All of the stone, water, trees and other elements in architecture are a response to the natural landscape of TianChi.
